Detective series based on the novels of Ellis Peters about a 12th century monk who's frequently called upon to solve mysteries in and around Shrewsbury. Derek Jacobi starred in the title role. Cadfael aired in the United States as an installment of the PBS series Mystery!.

A sack is found near the Abbey and it contains the dead body of an old man who appears to have been murdered. The suspects in the crime come from a group of pilgrims that includes two known thieves.
