Callan: Charlie Says It's Goodbye
James Palliser is a very rich man who wants to go and join his homosexual lover in Poland. Hunter tells Callan that it is not on, and that he is to stop this happening at all costs.
Komorowski commissions a young hitman by the name of Trent to look after Palliser. Secretly Komorowski wishes to defect, and this is why he has employed a relatively inexperienced youngster to look after such an important man and not a KGB officer.
Callan meets and falls in love with Susan Morris whose husband had committed suicide after coming under investigation by one of the security services. When Trent follows Callan to Susan's shop one day, Callan is for once unarmed, but kills Trent with a harpoon gun, to Susan's utter horror.
Liz: (to Callan) David - it was nice working for you, but it's nice to have you back with us as well.
Callan: (to Hunter, sardonically) Picking up the pieces?
Hunter: Oh, you didn't do that badly, David.
Callan: Well, what does it say on my file this time - emotionally unstable?
Hunter: An excess of subjectivity, I believe they call it.
Callan: Oh, yeah - I like that. What's it mean when it's at home?
Hunter: You get too involved - you care.
Callan: (laughs) Yeah, yeah. So, what now?
Hunter: You know perfectly well.
Callan: I don't - I want a job - I want to know what my job is, my real job.
Hunter: I see, no-one's told you! Ah, you're back where you were, David!
Lonely: (sidling up to Callan in a secretive way and hissing self-consciously out of the side of his mouth) Lovely weather for the time of year.
Callan: Yeah - yes, it is - it's particularly - clement.
Lonely: (watching Susan walk away) Now that is a bit of all right.
Callan: Oh, oh yeah, yeah.
Lonely: Bet she takes a bath every day. She one of them Mara Hari's, is she?
Callan: Oh, yeah, yeah - she'd kill you as soon as look at you. She's got a black belt in karate.
