Phillip Schofield presented the first Children's BBC in 1985. The show remained with this title until 1997, although its abbreviation had by this point become well known and used in scheduling.

In May 2012 it was announced that due to budget cuts all additional CBBC and Cbeebies programming on both BBC One and BBC Two would be cut with them only been available to watch on the CBBC and Cbeebies channels.
