Produced as two separate three part series, the "Dune" mini-series covers the three books of Frank Herbert's Dune trilogy. The first part, titled "Dune" covered the book "Dune". The second part was titled "Children of Dune" but covered both "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune". In this story, powerful ruling families fight over the dessert planet Arrakis, which is the only place where the substance known as "spice" comes from, with Paul Atreides becoming the leader of the native population and helping them to victory over the evil House Harkonnen. After achieving power, he must maintain power. As his children become of age, they must also deal with how best to hold the reins of power.
Paul’s sister, Alia, was born with all the knowledge of the Bene Gesserit, and at a young age already knows more than the elderly women in the order. Gurney Hallack is still alive, but thinks Lady Jessica betrayed Duke Leto, and tries to kill her. Paul is thrown because he didn’t see that coming. After turning the Water of Life, Paul decides that he is not the Qisat Shadurak, but something even better. When the Emperor lands on Arrakis, Alia delivers Muad'Dib’s ultimatum and there is a big battle deciding who will control the planet Dune, and all spice production.
