Sats in the UK are National Tests which are taken at the end of Key Stage 1(Years 1 to 2 (5-7 years old)), Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6 (7-11 years old)) and Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9 (11-14 years old)). They are tests which test what the pupil has learned over the Key Stage and give the school information so that they can predict what you will get in later Sats and also what you will get in your GCSE's. The ones at Key Stage 3 also helps the school to put you into classes for you GCSE topics and helps them to decide what level GCSE you will take (Foundation, Intermediate or Higher).
And i'll look on internet to try to find a definition for American ones.

In America, the Pre-SATs are taken in either 10th or 11th grade... They're like practice for the real SATs. Then, the real SATs are in 12th grade, and when you apply for a college, they look at your score. Throughout the earlier years, there are various standardized tests to see what level a student is on, or how the school is doing.

Evil, evil things that I never have to take ever again. I do feel sorry for the people who have to take the new ones...I heard they're WAAAAYY longer.

Unless I wanna take the LSATs, which i'm pretty sure I don't want to.
