Huh. Me too. I think what annoyed me the most about him was the stereotype American's put us into because of him.

But .. it doesn't annoy me now....

I agree with you on some levels, and disagree on others. He didn't put himself in danger for the fun of it, he just did what he loved to do, what he loved doing just happened to be very dangerous. He would have been disrespectful to his life if he hadn't done what he was doing.

But, we're all getting off the point. Remember, he didn't die doing something dangerous. He was swimming over a damn stingray for God's sake.

Wise ignore nyall He is just upset that a soccer player died the same day.And no one cares about it..So just ignore him...

Your quite wise my friend, NOT!!! FYI, Facchetti was much more impoortant to the world than some idiot.
So I don't care if a few Americans who have never heard of him him care. And btw, he was a billionaire and tell me the last time when EVERY important soccer board ackonowledged a player?

Steve spent his life taunting, teasing, provoking, aggravating, and challenging dangerous wild creatures. His luck ran out. Simple as that. I don't feel sorry for him. He died doing what he loved to do.

Steve set a bad example for kids. His antics suggested to kids that there was something kewl about sticking your puss into the face of a creature that could rip your throat out. The message was "you can become a big tv star by provoking wild animals and jumping to safety when they leap from the muck to kill you."

Steve was like a skier who chooses to race downhill before an onrushing avalanche.

TV viewers thrilled to watching him taunt dangerous creatures. He used them in an unconservationist-like way; he used them as props. There was something of the carney about him. He tapped into that place in all of us that enjoys a freakshow.

Let's stop mourning him. Let's keep his life and death in perspective. He died doing what he loved to do. We should all be so lucky. So stop crying. Rejoice.

Martin Luther King also put his life in constant danger for what he believed in and what he loved. He paid the price too. Does that mean he disrespected life? I don't think so.

I don't have a problem with people not liking him, some of the stuff he did was a little shaky but don't go around saying he didn't respect life as if you knew him, which in all likely-hood, you didn't.

You people are missing one fact from this tragedy. Here is a direct quote I copied...

"He and the underwater cameraman went out to do some pieces on the reef and coral and stuff good for the kids' show and, unfortunately, he came out over the top of a stingray that was buried in the sand and the barb went up and hit him in the chest."

The stingray was buried in the sand. He didn't even know it was there till it stuck him with it's barb. So saying he was intentionally aggravating it is wrong.

He shouldn't have been out there screwing around with sharks and rays. They're dangerous! He must have known sting rays bury themselves in the sand.

I must have missed the part of the article that said he was screwing around with anything. Let's see... taking film of coral and reefs... came upon a stingray buried in the sand... nope, it's not listed in the article. Get over it.

OK so he was taking pictures of coral. But he must have known he was in an area where sting rays lurked in the sand. And he must have known sting rays could be dangerous. He had a wife and kids to think about. He was stupid. Like I said he died doing what he loved to do. So why grieve? I'm not.

I didn't say he deserved to die because he loved animals. He deserved to die because he was taunting a creature that was known to be dangerous. A bit like a matador taunting a bull -- when the bull has been taunted beyond endurance and gores the matador to death, well ... as far as I'm concerned, the matador deserved to die. Leave a dangerous animal alone. Steve was stupid. The sting ray didn't know Steve was "just playing" or making a documentary for his daughter Bindi or that Steve was a famous, highly respected naturalist. All the sting ray knew was this: a foreign creature, a possibly dangerous stranger was swimming above him, near him, around him. The sting ray struck out to protect himself. Maybe it was a mother sting ray protecting its young. I don't know. But Steve probably had gotten to the point where he believed he was "invincible" anyways. Maybe he thought he could push the envelope, you know ... get just one more inch closer to the shark's jaws so to speak. People who court danger always push the envelope. Steve was so stupid. He should have taken the best interests of his family into consideration and avoided dangerous creatures. He should be chatised post mortem for leaving a widow and two fatherless children behind. He shouldn't be lauded for practising a dangerous lifestyle when his family is now left behind without its breadwinner. Men should not be encouraged to do idiotically life-threatening activities if their wives and children could be left without his breadwinning capabilities. A man has an obligation to his wife and child and that means forgoing well-loved, dangerous, selfish, life-threatening activities. When they become husbands and fathers, men have to drop some of their antisocial behaviors and activities.

He didn't taunt the sting ray. Anyone who would do that is an animal is an idiot.
You're blaming him for doing dangerous things and leaving his wife. Yet his wife does things with these dangerous animals aswell, why aren't you blaming her aswell. And how can you compare what Irwin did with anti-social behaviour. They are nothing alike. The way you put things across, you make it sound like men are complete idiots in what they do. Also it's not just up to men be breadwinners. Women can do this aswell.

How smart are you?! Anyone can die of cancer regardless of your age! You know notihng about Facchetti and he was far more imporant than Steve Irwin. Facchetti played in the 60's and 70's meaning no one here would know him simply because most of the users here don't follow soccer! The reason I didn't make a thread for him is because I don't see the need to make a thread for everything that comes into my head! And who the f*** do you tihnk you are to tell me to leave this site when you are not even a freaking editor? Go learn to spell! And btw, I'd rather die peacefully than to die in pain. And Facchetti was important otherwise, FIFA, UEFA orany other MAJOR soccer board wouldn't have acknowledged his death! So get you facts straight and get a damn dictionary before you come posting crap that isn't even spelt correctly!
