Well, I was up late last night. So late that regular TV disappeared and the paid programming shows came on *barf*. And of course, one of them was a 30 minute ad for Feed The Children (which always succeeds in making me feel like a terrible person).
Some of the stories are just so sad. These kids literally have nothing except the dirt they walk on, and rags they wear. The good news is that by donating $10 you can feed 1000 kids. Which is actually in my price range! But as usual, I didn't write the phone number down, turned off the TV, and went to sleep. Does this make me a bad person?
How many of you guys actually donate to stuff like this? |

Those kids are such drama queens. "Oh, look at me. I'm so hungry. Give me moneys." When I see those ads, I go into the kitchen and throw away a can of vegetables. Then I take a picture of the can in the garbage and mail it to Africa. They can eat the photo if they're that desperate. |

Sending money/food is not a solution, educating them in how to grow their own food, digging for wells, etc. could give them a living.
It's just like in the medieval times in Europe, it will take about a 1000 years to learn how things work and how to make a living. |

I really don't give a damn. I personally don't hear or see of any effort at all from these people or they're government trying to make it a better place to live. It seems to me they all rely on us to send them veggies in a can or thirty bucks a month. Why is it so hard to import a jug of water and a twenty-five cent bag of potato seeds? I think it's stupid that they make sure to dramatize the fact these kids aren't getting enough mac & cheese. "Look at this little boy. He hasn't had anything to eat in 3 days. When he does eat he eats from a garbage can covered in flies and ants. While you sit at home eating your steak, this little boy is eating snake. It's all because you touch yourself at night."
I'm tired of hearing about it. It reminds me of these big movie studios bitching about how we don't give them enough money. |

Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think. |

Yes the commercial is painful to watch, every time I see it I feel for them.
But then I remember the starving, homeless kids in this country and I get disgusted about the fact you never see a commercial for them.
The only time you hear about the poor in this country is when they commit a crime or die tragically. It's really sad.
I used to volunteer in homeless shelters when I was younger, it really opens your eyes to something you'd ignore otherwise.

I usually crack open a beer whenever I see a commercial like that. But that's just me. |

I was watching a show last night which had a story about people in the Philippines that actually get permission from families to live in a crypt. They sleep on top of the caskets and also eat their food on a casket. This is because of both a lack of jobs and room for housing. It was pretty freaky watching young kids sleeping on a grave.
This is one of the graveyards:

Wow. That is third-world countries for you. Acting like a big bunch of drama queens. They're so obsessed with making us feel bad they walk into a cript for shelter. Now is eating ON the coffin really necessarily? I mean, seriously. I guess the building it's self for shelter makes sense but eating ON their coffins? Seriously. I don't get it.
Instead of using that money they spend on commercials to make us feel bad, (which it doesn't) they should be using that money to build these guys some homes. It won't take much to please them when their satisfied when they cozy up with a corpse every night. |

God you are so self centred, hows about we throw you into the middle of Ethiopia or some other equatorial African nation and see how well you survive.

I know I'm self centered, you don't need you to tell me that. I wouldn't survive out there. My only option would be to conquer them. We've got war, famine, and depression right here on our doorstep so why should I care more about those kids than my own country? I volunteer in my country here in America all the time and it never get any better. Those kids may be worse off but until America is out of it's rutt, I'd rather help myself. That $50.00 a month I could send to those kids is being spent on rising gas prices to fill up every two weeks and we have pay more and more for a jug of milk everyday because people are gouging our prices. Once we can afford our own gasoline to get to work and school so we can make money, I'll donate to those kids. Otherwise, I have no option. I can't help them when the average family is broke as heck. |

Have you seen the inside of a crypt? Its about 20' x 8'. Other than the 3 caskets inside, there is barely enough room to move around. It would be like living in a tiny tool shed, only with a couple of caskets inside. They used one as a table and one as a bed. The parents slept on the floor at the foot of the crypt. They were allowed to live there as long as they act as caretakers and protect the graves from thieves.
You really needed to watch the show to get what they go through daily.

Most, if not all of those videos are made by charity organizations, not the starving people there. |

Um, the one I watched was on National Geographic channel and was about people who live and or work with the dead. It also included ambulance drivers/emergency personnel, coroners and funeral directors. |
