When I open Firefox each AM, It takes me about 1.5 seconds for the page to load. When I use IE, it takes nearly 1 minute to load

Safari is just the default browser for Macs. Nothing special. As for Opera, it does tend to run faster than Firefox. I think it's because Firefox takes up a lot more memory on the computer. It's not that much faster on my connection (about 600 milliseconds on average, according to this test), I don't know if it would have a bigger difference with dial-up though.

I'd say Opera's definitely worth using, unless you're addicted to extensions and add-ons, since they don't really have many of those (though some add-ons you get in Firefox, like adblocking, is built into Opera).

ETA: I just ran that same test for Internet Explorer (shudder) and it took an average of 5300 milliseconds. 5.1 seconds slower than Opera.

I might give Opera a try. Problem is, how much space does it take up? My laptop only has little over 4 GB of space left on it. So I never want to take the risk of it entirely filling up without my knowledge. Hence why I use Disk cleanup very regularly now.

Firefox is alright. For some reason it loads pictures a little bit slower on me but other than that it tends to work alright. I haven't seen the difference with any of the main two so far with my connection speed.

Here is a site where you can read all about Safari.

It was made for Apple/Macintosh computers but is now available for Windows users too.

My Opera folder takes up 29.3 MB on the C drive. Says the Mozilla Firefox folder takes up 51.3 MB.

Interesting. I might have to give it a shot seeing as it has less memory space. *looks to see how much IE is taking* Well I don't guess I am, it won't tell me Ah well, I am sure it's large anyway. I don't mind Firefox I just don't like hte fact that my computer is older working on a good third year by summer which increases its risk of something happening and I don't want it to be space issues.

*Sigh* I just wish Firefox had the Msn add on since it actually looks kinda cool looking but that's not happening since that's the competition.

Here's an easy way to find out. Hold down the Ctlr and Alt buttons and then add the Delete button...this will make the Windows Task Manager popup. Click on Processes and you will see all the memory being used on your computer. You must be using Firefox while doing this to see its memory.

I've been using Firefox since.. well it's been so long I don't even remember. I've gotten so many people to switch to it over the years. It's just.. better than everything else, it's hard to describe. Simple, yet effective. And all the wicked add-ons for it.

Just to name a few:

StumbleUpon -- You can literally waste an entire day using this. Bored? Just hit the StumbleUpon button and it will randomly bring up a site that is determined by your interests, which you filled out whilst installing the add-on. Pictures, games, news, a random site. It's damn near addicting once you start.

Adblock Plus -- The best, BEST, ad blocking program ever. There's tons of settings as well so you tweek the blocking power.

Stylish -- Basically lets you completely redesign a site. Or you can download themes for popular sites like YouTube, facebook, etc. I have a flower garden as my facebook background right now. Looks great, considering how empty the facebook background is.

All-In-One Gestures -- I owe Kelly for this. Turns a person into an even lazier person. Rather than click the back or forward one page buttons on your browser, just right-click and drag forward or back to do the same thing. There's other more complex shortcuts as well.

And of course all the themes. I have an Xbox theme right now. Turned the refresh, stop, home buttons into Xbox controller buttons. It's snazzy. So yeah, Firefox is far more than just a browser. It's become it's own entertainment package.

I used to have StumbleUpon, but removed it. I re-added it again, and stumbled upon this.

And this ..

Might be your comp, mine loads in less than 10 seconds. Usually for IE loads faster than Firefox.

There shouldn't be much of a difference between the two when it comes to loading pages. 99% of that is determined by your connection and specs. There might be a slight difference between the two if you have one loaded up with features, tabs, etc. But there really shouldn't be a drastic difference.

The interface, security, community, and features are all that matter with browsers. Firefox has a stronger reputation for security and Mozilla, the company behind it, is known to address vulnerabilities as they're discovered. Firefox has a larger and more passionate community than IE due to its open-source status. IE has made progress with version 7.0, although it basically copied what Firefox already had, but it's progress none-the-less. With version 7.0 they basically caught up with Firefox and Opera. Also, IE lacks a Macintosh/Linux version, unlike Firefox.

In early 2004, 85% of browsers being used were Internet Explorer. In December of 2008 that number was down to 46%, with Firefox at 44%. Not bad considering IE comes with Windows. Anyway, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of IE as it's a solid browser, albeit an often targeted one for viruses. It works well for those who aren't very computer literate. So I suppose it's simply a matter of preference for most.

Also, has anyone tried Google Chrome?

Google chromse sucks ass, I found it to be slow and the style ugly as heck. Looks like a nightmare to me. But try it and see what you think, but I f***ing hated it.
