Alright, I'll just be a man and say this.
PS3 losing exclusivity to DMC4 sucks. It won't likely affect my
gaming experience in any noticeable way, but the fact that you can get it on 360 and PC may (in fact, undoubtedly will) affect PS3 console sales. If you have fewer console sales, you lose titles, such as Ace Combat now apparantly being exclusive to 360
. A series raised and nurtured on PS is gone. Fortuntately, I never played them, but it's hard to witness these bonds breaking. AC is Namco, so Tekken (again, the fighting franchise I don't play) is probably not too far behind.
Thus far, there hasn't been any move made or announced that affects the value of my ps3 to me
, but Sony needs to get consoles moving to keep the system from sinking a la
dreamcast. They need a price drop, and they need those first-part IPs out. That's still the whole reason I stuck with Sony this round; 3rd parties come and go, but 1st party is how you can define a system. Get a demo of Heavenly Sword or LAIR out. Show a teaser of Killzone 3 (again a game I have no vested interest in, but is important to others). The upcoming Game Informer has a bunch of stuff on Uncharted, which is great, and a trailer's been leaked of Ratchet and Clank. We still don't know what the Ico team's up to, and 8 Days is supposed to play cinematically like that trailer we all saw. What's Sucker Punch been doing? Show a SOCOM clip for people that enjoy that kind of game (again, not me).
Sony's stance of just relying on themselves though (they've been quoted as saying they're not going to "buy" 3rd party support) is extremely risky. At least buy Heavy Rain. I don't know anything about the game, but if I'm not able to play that one, it's gonna be a heartbreaker. As of right now, the only 360 title that I'm salivating over is Project Offset (still the slightest chance it may come out on ps3 though). 3rd party games releasing on all systems is, in the end, a good thing. I'm happy that Xbox users will finally get to play DMC (although I still can't imagine a game without Dante; and only 1 gun?) and Guitar Hero (and this isn't me being baised, but the axe-shaped guitar sucks in comparison to the gibson design; I hope the ps3 release doesn't follow suit).
All you have to do is either lower the price or show something. 1st party is basically the deciding factor as everything else is going both ways. We've seen what Microsoft has made in house, and we know that they have no qualms about buying up everything else; Western philosophy over Eastern maybe. Well, you guys need to get over it. Don't try to become Nintendo (no offense), because although your franchises are pretty good, they're not on their scale. And why the heck am I suddenly using second person . . .
Anyways, if MGS and FF (two franchises that I personally don't like, but are adored by gamers) follow suit, Sony's going to be stuck unless they SHOW what they're making, which they haven't. If THIS
is true, then price won't even be too much of an issue anymore (especially if they drop ps3s by $100). It's a console that does many things, and I'm happy enought to wait for the big games this winter, but they can't have the industry on pause until then. If everything else coming out is 3rd party, there's little incentive for the less patieient to invest 1-200 more dollars now just to play the same games. I appreciate pushing back LAIR and Heavenly Sword to get them right, but they were supposed to be out NOW
Quit. Screwing. Up. It's downright annoying
God of War 2 is awesome, in case you didn't know.
