Rock has substance and Rap is mindless? Gimme a break. ^o) If rap is mindless then so is rock, unless you call jumping up and down substance. Yeah, rockers may play an instrument, but what about rappers? I mean, rappers can rhyme, most of the time, on cue. And they make up beats to match it. I don't know about you, but I certainly cannot do that. MOST rappers rap about something that has meaning. Take for example - Jadakiss: Why? he rapped about important stuff, stuff that a lot of people can relate to. You say rap is mindless because, what(?), you don't like it. *-)

I hate rap and hip hop. Though I don't hate certain, err, groups ike Public Enemy etc. that actually have meaning in their lyrics, but stuff thats all, as people put it, nigga this nigga that get old and flat out suck.

And don't diss ska, atleast not sk-punk, Operation Ivy FTW!!!

I mean I'm sure a few people here like Streetlight Manifesto? They're a great ska-punk band, Less Than Jake was good, and even Anthem's okay. But yeah ska rules alot of times, the more punk based less pop based stuff if awesome. I mean come one you can't resist Streetlight Manifesto can you? CAN YOU???

Ever heard f freesetyle rapping. People do that for a living! They do make good ones on the spot! Rock just just music after it has been composed yada yada yada. Rap is better!

Making up a song on the spot is fine. But you need to go through the composition process in order to make the lyrics you have into a good song, and not just lyrics.

Seems kind of pointless, doesn't it? Basically, what I'm saying is, we all have our different views of rock and rap. I think jumping up and down, breaking stuff is stupid. And most of y'all think rap is all about porn, which 50% of it is, which I agree with y'all on. But when you saying rap is meaningless, then that's where I have to disagree with you on. Both genres put effort into their songs and just because you like 1 better than the other doesn't mean the other one sucks, or what hercfan likes that say - meaningless.

The majority of it is meaningless though, there are some artists who do talk about real life stuff but most of this isnt that popular. So what you get people buying and stuff which is plastered all over TV, Radio etc is meaningless with a tiny bit of stuff which talks about real stuff

Whilst with Rock, IMO, the majority is good but there is also a minority of meaningless screaming too.

The same with rap; but people are so quick to judge it just by 1 song that they won't give any other type of rap a chance.

you can't use the i am judging based off a few songs arguement on me, people at my school listen to rap enough that i have heard countless songs. I just say it takes very little talent compared to rock, and rap is also alot less meaningful

Well, everytime we get into this debate you always use 50 Cent as an excuse, which led me to believe you only listen to 1 rapper and then think rap sucks. Try listening to all the different types of rap.
