Hello Goosebumps Fans!

I am the Senior Designer for a company called Sally Corporation (www.SallyCorp.com ) that is designing a Goosebumps themed amusement park dark ride together with Scholastic. Our company has been involved with creating dozens of family oriented dark rides all over the world, including ones with creepy fun themes like Scooby-Doo and Ghostbusters!

A dark ride is the type of ride that you see at amusement parks like Disney, where you travel past scenes and animatronics in a darkened environment. Famous examples of dark rides are Disney's "Haunted Mansion" and "Pirates of the Caribbean".

The Goosebumps ride we are working on will have guns that allow the riders to interact with the scenery and characters, making things happen in the scenes by hitting a target.

We wanted to survey fans of the Goosebumps books to see what types of scenes and characters that you as Goosebumps fans think should definitely be included in the ride. This is your chance to be part of the creative process that goes into developing these types of rides, so be sure to let me know what you think!

What would you put in a Goosebumps dark ride?

Post here or email me offlist at dfaupel@sallycorp.com !

I look forward to reading your feedback!

Wow; it's been well over a decade since I read Goosebumps. When I try to think back to what I read in the series, only two items stand out strongly for me; and only one probably iconic enough for recognition on a ride. The first is the issue where the entire book has the character/s tracking down some monster, and not until the end do you realize the story is from the perspective of some werewolf or something, and that the monster is in fact a human being.

The second, and more recognizable, is the story (I want to say there may have been a sequel or two as well) about the marionette. Naturally, anything with "dolls" in it is mucho creepy, and probably fine for a dark ride.

Sounds like the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyland!

Characters/things that really stand out for me are:
-Slappy
-Montster blood
-The Haunted Mask(s)
-The mud monsters from You Can't Scare Me
-The costumes the kids make in Attack of the Jack O Lanterns
-The monster from The Who Cried Monster
-Anything from One Day At Horror Land
-The Executioner from A Night In Terror Tower
-The Blob
-Mummy
-Lawn gnomes

I would love to see a scene with Slappy on top of a stage controlling humans with strings. As if people were the puppets!

A simple ideas is to have a scene looking like a graveyard and then Goosebumps style zombies would pop out

Another is to have it themed to a Carnival run by Slappy and the Horrors

The Goosebumps series of books have been around for over a decade now and have rightfully garnered quite a following. Their mix of child-friendly horror and quirky humor has made them unique as well as enjoyable for a plethora of younger readers. The series has already spawned a couple PC-based video games, with fairly mixed results. This time around, it’s setting its sights on home consoles.
