Please don't use that colour scheme, I can barely look at it. I have chronic migraines and some colours that bother it will pretty much stop me from coming to a site.

what part of the website do you have a problem with the color scheme exactly, could you give me a screenshot and mark the area?

The black on red on the "My Schedule" page is making it difficult to see. I like the red tint in the background, but change the color that is in the grid for the my shows page so you can see. Grid-lines might be nice too. Other than that it's pretty good. Oh, and in the old version the site is centered on the page, but on the wide version it's all on the left. That is not nice for people with wide screen monitors (pretty much everyone now). Oh, and there seems to be some sort of double spaced thing going on on every page, don't like that, but that is one thing i can live with. But change the colors on the "My Schedule" page please!

P.S. These recommendations only apply if you must change the site. If you don't have to change it, I say keep it the way it is!

Sebrioth,

Here is a screenshot while logged in:
http://www.trystian.com/testing/TVRage_Beta_loggedin1.png

And one with me logged out:
http://www.trystian.com/testing/TVRage_Beta_loggedout1.png

I'm on Windows XP SP3, using Firefox 3.6.3.

-----

Regarding designs, I can make some mockups for you. Give me a couple days. I'll keep them light. mostly just CSS redesigns.

-----

The CSS errors were mostly empty color assignments for various elements in http://www.tvrage.com:8080/_layout/css/main.css. Example: #menucontainer ul { color: #; }

Just my $0.02

Going by first reactions... The layout is just fine and I don't even mind the reds.

The only thing I'd change would the dark red with the black text. Obviously dark on dark can't be read very easily.

Personally i agree. But after seeing the messages here and the stated goal of the change, i think you should change it. If your goal is to increase revenue, you should avoid alienating the most users you can. I would go for a completely white background and light/neutral colors, the way most big sites are today. Maybe it's not the best design, certainly not the most creative or the "coolest", but it is the one almost no users hate or avoid. Many users wouldn't love it but i think you wouldn't see reactions as strong as some we have in this thread.

@Trystian, I am also on FF 3.6.3 with XP SP3 and it looks fine when I am logged in: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/1869/tvrageschedulepage.png Also, what extension did you use to get that long screenshot? I did mine the old fashioned way by hitting print screen.

The new layout is horrible. The colors are uneven, the page is not centered, and the font on the red color is very hard to read and makes your eyes very tire.

Black on dark red:

Schedule
Windows NT 6.1 = Windows 7

Crew Credits (cast credits are ok)

The layout is full of little problems like:

Main Show Page
Increase the width of the name, there is more than enough room for that

Missing links:
Old version and new version
Btw i would center that and a lot of other things.

And i would change a few details like the search box, it seems lost, i would put it on the top bar or on the left aligned with the merchandise search and add a title "search the site" to make it clear it's not a find merchandise.

I left TV.com because the color change they made was awful - bright white. Many people complained, so they put about an inch of black around the edge. I left and came here. I've been very happy here, but I could barely stand to keep my eyes on that page. The colors are way too bright when you are expecting people to read within those colors. I don't see how I could possibly spend any time here anymore. And someone actually thought that the black letters on red were a good idea? I remember that being complained about months ago.

thanks for all the comments, keep them coming eventough full budget for design is spent, will find other means if the it's a50/50 split in liking disliking,

will delay the relaunch for a while, was gonna do it as a surprise, but figured i better test the waters first made the right choice it seems.

please keep the comments coming, no matter how trivial they may sound.

Is it still online? I get "permanently moved" with a link to the same port.

I tend to try and work within almost any color scheme (it's a personal choice), but from the screenshots, the colors might cause too much eye strain for most people.

My main problem with the "old" site (can't tell if it still applies) is that it is timing out with so many ads and third party sites being contacted (I see what sites are being contacted in Opera's status bar), and there is something that sometimes blocks most functionality (can't click on any link on the page), even after doing a refresh. I don't know if it's my setup (Opera on Vista) -haven't tried on other systems- or if it is the site, but this has been a major problem for me (to the point that I registered to try and reduce the number of ads, which helps some of the time, and even then, I've been put off to the point that almost would stop visiting).

I only see a similar problem on MSNBC site (just not so bad). The problem is that all links are disabled (can't click on anything). Sometimes the page never finishes loading (usually Opera says it's trying to get something from a third party site) and won't work even after a reset. It can be rather annoying, and less patient users probably wouldn't even try anymore - hope new version improves on this.

I am having trouble getting to the beta page, Firefox gives me this error:

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

EDIT: After looking at screen captures in posts above mine, I am adding my protest about the use of red - white on red, black on red, both are too hard too look at. The contrast between the two is too great and makes the words vibrate at me so I can't read them. I'd be another who wouldn't be able to come back because of the risk of migraines. Please go with something softer and gentler on the eye (not bright white background either as that's not much better than red). That would be much appreciated.
