I guess it comes down to whether you trust the tvrage system, or a member losing interest a few years down the line and deleting their images off the third party server, or the third party server deciding the images infringe copyrights and deleting them, etc.

You could always put them both places

I keep copies of most of what I do on my own computer. Others may, as well. Therefore, you may wish to post a note if you can't get the images back. For now, I'll wait to see if you can.

I really like the new layout.

I store my stuff on photobucket.

Number of deletions of images by photobucket: 0

Number of deletions of images by tvrage: conservatively, about 2000.

but sure, back them up. Although if you're looking for just backup, your hard drive is better than any Internet site, as long as you back up your hard drive.

The Episode Gallery's can't be recovered unfortunately, so if you have them backed up somewhere you can start adding them immediately.

It is highly unlikely that we will lose this many images again unless something catastrophic happens, since the new backup system is a lot more safe.

Since we are talking about images and the new site, i just checked the new layout and noticed a problem with the images of the shows being used in the front page. Because the images already uploaded are currently limited to 320 pixels and the new layout uses 600 pixels images, they are resized to almost 4 times their sizes, so they look bad. Considering it's the first thing someone sees when they load the new site i think we should solve that, if possible, before the new site goes live. So i suggest increasing the size limit of the show images and asking everyone to get new bigger images asap for the shows currently running. I don't know if the current code can be changed, but if it can it should be simple. There are other problems like that with other images, but i think this is the most urgent one.

Yeah, I noticed that too, I'm looking into it.

Regarding the rotating show images on the new design, fierras is going to take care of them

On some shows, the screencap doesn't show on the main episode page. When I encountered one of these, I started to re-upload it, and when I followed that link, the screencap was visible.

Is this a related problem? I did try forcing a refresh in case it was some kind of caching issue, but that did not help.

I'm also working with Seb to create a tool that will let you enter the URL of the folder where you do have your images for a given episode, type it in, and dump them all in in one shot. Probably won't be available until after the new layout goes live, or so I'm told.

It could also be that the site's cache is acting up, can you please provide a link to an example?

Also, I believe seb has enabled a episode gallery process that if you upload a winzip file, it will automatically unzip and place all the images in the zip file. I haven't had a chance to try this, since I didn't have any of the episode galleries on my hard drive, separately or in winzips. If someone wants to try it...

He, guess what?

I just found a lot of screenshots I took for the L&O franchise on another website.

Yes, they took them without permission, but right now I need to retrieve them before we start bitching about them. And yes, retrieving them will take a while, because I have to find the time.

Maybe just say they did us a favor and leave it at that.

I've harvested all my screenshots, I will be putting them back on our site over time.

There is a very good chance you can find your screenshots here:

Unfortunate, but these things happen. Luckily the database is still intact.
