What is the site's stance on adding new seasons to a show while a previous season is still airing?

Cos I've always been under the impression that you shouldn't add a new season until the current one has finished airing but lately I've come across several shows where new seasons have been added to a show as soon as they have been announced even though they are still in the middle of or just started airing the previous season and frankly i find it REALLY annoying to go into an episode list only to get a blank page instead of the current season list.

So if it isn't already the sites stance that new seasons shouldn't be added until the previous have stopped airing then i think it should be cos surely i can't be the only one that finds this annoying and if it already is the sites stance then clearly it's time to remind people not to add them

I agree with you. It's annoying to visit the episode list and see a blank page for a season that hasn't started yet. One show I edit (Major Crimes) just finished its first season, so I changed its status from "New Series" to "On Hiatus".

When I've learned some details about season 2 and can fill in the date and/or title for S02E01 (a few weeks before season 2 starts), I'll do three things:

1. Change the status to "Returning Series"
   
2. Update the number of seasons to 2
   
3. Update the episode order or remove it (if unknown)
   

I've already rejected a couple of submitted updates from people that thought these things should change as soon as it was announced that the show was renewed for a second season.

Well i do personally prefer to change the status to returning once a new season has been added to indicate to people that the show has been renewed and also add the new season UNLESS it is still airing the previous season in which case i don't add the new one until the previous season has finished airing but whether to do it your way or my way i guess is a matter of taste and either is fine with me.
I just find it really annoying when ex. season 4 is added on a show that has just started airing season 3, i mean for gods sake at least wait until season 3 has finished to add it. Anyway good to know it's not just me that finds it annoying lol

I think we discussed this amongst the staff at some point, but so far I've been unable to find the discussion...

We are developing a new version of the site where I'm sure we can have a much better solution to this problem, because technically they are correct if the show indeed has gotten a two season order or something.

Yeah i remember there was a long discussion about it on the site at some point, i just can't find the thread either lol.

I'm just sure that it was eventually agreed that you shouldn't add new seasons until the last one finished airing because a lot of people was getting annoyed by it and also i think it was causing a lot of problems for those that had something set up to grab new episodes from the site (i have no clue about these things so correct me if im wrong)

But yeah would be great if a solution could be made for the new site but until then it would be nice if there was an agreement amongst staff on whether they should be added when announced or not
