I have one problem concerning special characters. When I contributed episodes and cast members to Czech series Horakovi they have some characters in their names corrupted.. I mean, instead of correct special character in a name there is question mark... since this all should be fixed by using utf-8 encoding and when I contributed this stuff it was ok in the input field, then, I think, this is caused by a bad page encoding of a user who approved my contributions.

Am I right? ..and what should I do in this case? ... if i don't count becoming an editor of the show which might help then i don't know, I am editor of no shows

thanks for any help...

Looking at the guide, it looks like most of the special characters show up, so it may just be something with the approver or approval system like you said. I can try renaming them to get rid of the ?s -- if you post the names that need fixing and what they should be, I'll give that route a try. If that doesn't work, Sebrioth may have to take a look at it, or if all else fails, the English equivalent (if there is one...) may have to be used.

I tried renaming both the episodes and the people, but the characters still don't seem to work. If you want, I can rename them using an English equivalent in order to get rid of the annoying question mark, but adding the correct character doesn't seem to work.

ouch, that's bad Could you please take a look at this problem more deeply? I can say that when I add info I use UTF-8 page encoding in my Firefox. Moreover I have English Windows. Curious is that for example in AKAs it's everywhere ok where I contributed, e.g. Monk (special character "ů" is there) or this Cold Case... when you switch your browser to western or any other encoding you'll see a big mess anyway, problem may be in a database where you can set encoding too.

Curious is also title and summary of this show and this show. First show has corrupted title and summary (utf8 characters encoded to western encoding ISO-8859-1). Second show has its title ok but in a summary the title is corrupted. Curious, right?

I will stop adding new shows, episodes and people that contains Central European special characters so you will have time to examine this problem If you are interested in solving this. For me it's a big problem because I don't want to use IMDb type of names where some characters are with diacritical signs and some not. In some cases it may get different meaning.

In the worst case I may name people and titles and description without diacritical signs like "ů" as "u", "ř" as "r", etc. like we usually use in cell phones or emails but that's odd for pages as TVRage is

Unfortuntely, the most I can do is try to rename everything manually, but the encoding reasons behind why it won't work and whatnot goes way over my head. Since renaming didn't work, and since that's as far as I can go, you may want to PM Sebrioth, the webmaster. I'm sure he'll (that is, if it's possible) be able to fix everything, or at least be able to give you reasons behind why the special characters don't work or where to go from here.

I think the problem is resolved, but you will have to rename the episodes unfortunaly, i'm sorry for this, forgot to include UTF-8 for episode titles.

Could you please rename show title of this:
Příkopy -> Příkopy

...and these people:
Jakub Chrome?ek -> Jakub Chromeček
Mariana Pracha?ová -> Mariana Prachařová

I can't do that...

Hey Seb, I tried renaming Jakub Chromeček -- on his profile it still has the ?, but here it shows it correct. Same with Mariana Prachařová.

Looks like the show renamed fine, though.

I just wanted to say that CZ.Fox did a great job adding alternate country “titles” for most of the guides I edit. CZ.Fox went way beyond the call in his (or her’s) efforts. I really appreciated that CZ.Fox was able to use the special characters in those titles.

Thanks CZ.Fox

Thanks... I'm trying to do my best because this site has a high potential like old tvtome.com had that time.

I'll add more alternative titles when I will have a time. Now, I add mostly show guides of Czech, Slovak, German and French shows because a lot of them is missing.
