Hey everyone, I just thought everyone would really dig hearing about this years SHARK WEEK 2008, starting Sunday, July 27th!
I sent messages out to some of the admins and I have had no reply back, so, I have decided to go ahead and post about SHARK WEEK in this forum. It does relate to television, therefore I am NOT posting in the wrong section. Let's get this party started. Let's talk about past experiences, what you might be looking for in the upcoming shows, any questions. I WILL be checking in regularly so I will be able to update you guys with the newest information available and I will answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. I work for Discovery so I am definitely in the know. You guys will definitely love Shark Yourself!, once Discovery gets it up and running. I'll be updating you guys with info as it comes to me, so don't worry, you'll be in "the know". LoL.
I'm totally stoked for the Mythbusters shark special myself (Jamie & Adam rock). Like I said, I'll be checking in frequently, so if you have any questions don't be shy, ask away.
Check out the site: Shark Week : Discovery Channel : Shark Behavior and Conservation
||||HERE's THE LISTING ON ALL THE SHARK WEEK EVENTS||||
Shark Week 2008 Premieres
SUNDAY @ 9PM -- Mythbusters: Shark Special

Jamie and Adam totally bring it. Using their usual explosive experimentation (expect lots of hilarity), they travel from CA's deep blue to the Bahamas in hunt of debunking some serious shark myths. My personal fave, are sharks repelled by magnets? They even create a 16-foot long robo-shark; how's that for upping the ante!?
MONDAY @ 9PM -- Surviving Sharks with Survivorman!

Everyone's favorite Survivorman, Les Stroud, gives tips and tricks on how best to play it safe in the water. He tests some popular survivor theories -- is it safer to stay in a group or tread water along? -- that i'm sure you'll find useful when you're stranded in shark infested waters off the coast of South Africa.
Also on Monday, Day of the Shark @ 10pm.
TUESDAY @ 9PM -- Dirty Jobs: Shark Special with Mike Rowe

Sharks don't just life in the warm waters of the tropics, how about looking north...waaaaay north! The mysterious Greenland shark lives near the Arctic circle and Dirty Jobs' Mike Rowe travels to their bitter cold home to find out more about the large, slow-moving behemoths. Learn how the rapid ecological changes near the north pole are affecting this awesome creature, and how that trickles down the food chain.
Also on Tuesday, How Not to Become Shark Bait @ 10pm.
THURSDAY @ 9PM -- Mysteries of the Shark Coast

Why are shark populations mysteriously declining? Follow a special team of marine biologists, scientists and adventurers with noted documentary filmmaker Mike deGruy as they on the largest shark tagging expedition in Australian history. Crittercams and remote cameras give us great views and help us understand the largely secretive life of sharks.
Be a part of the research team, check out Shark Runners!

A wise man once told me to live every week like it's Shark Week.
OK, I posted that in last year's Shark Week thread, too. |

Hahaha, those are some great JAWS animations. Spielberg sure knows how to make high-quality movies.
Here are some pics from the Shark Week stunt in NY that happened recently.

Thank you SOOO Much for posting this. I LOVE Shark Week and I'm so excited that it's back on! I watched Mythbusters last night and you know what, unfortunately, I have to say that I am not a fan of that show anymore. Well I take that back...I didn't like their conclusions to some of their shark myths. For some of them - you can't just test something once and draw a conclusion on it. You have to test it multiple times and then you can draw a conclusion. Like sharks not being attracted to dogs. Maybe those sharks weren't in "hunt" or "feeding" mode, and that robot dog did NOT paddle like a real dog would. That's just one example. Besides that, I can't wait for the rest of the week! |

Yeah, that's true what you said about multiple experiments. That being said, the special was already 2 hours long and most viewers wouldn't want to see the same experiment multiple times.
Tonight at 9 p.m. is the premiere of Mysteries of the Shark Coast. That's the one where scientists look to figure out what's happening to all the sharks along Australia's northeastern coast... they're disappearing. With them, the predators, missing the ocean food chain is not in balance. |

Hey, so what did everyone think about Shark Week? I think the MythBusters episode was my personal favorite, especially when they blew up the air tank haha… I’m excited to see new episodes from those two – Wednesdays at 9 PM if you’re watching with me It looks like they’re going to be blowing up steak and pushing the limits of angry drivers, woohoo! |
