Gidget is a one-season color sitcom from the mid-sixties starring Sally Field and Don Porter. Field plays Frances "Gidget" Lawrence, a 15 year old surfer girl while Porter plays Russell Lawrence, her UCLA English professor father. The show follows Gidget's adventures in high school, at home, and on the beaches of southern California. Mr. Lawrence has much ado guiding his daughter through her surf loving, boy crazy teenage years while Gidget's older married sister Anne and her goofy husband John offer advice and counsel. Gidget's gawky school pal and confidante Larue is often an accomplice in her zany escapades. The entire series is available on DVD.

Kahuna arrives for dinner in a suit and talks of wanting nothing more in life than a little house, a wife, and a regular job in an electronics plant. Gidget is stunned and disappointed with Kahuna's "creepy suburban dream." Alone for a moment, she suddenly realizes that her father and Kahuna have conspired to cure her of her infatuation by making Kahuna appear the typical middle class bore.
