Car thefts are up, and recoveries down. The Commissioner already forced out the first lieutenant in charge of the investigation, and now his replacement is in trouble. There's one person the commissioner can turn to: Ironside. The first question to answer is where the cars are going. The second might be: are the thieves getting help from the police – from a corrupt officer?
Ironside: If I fail in this, who are you going to get to help me?
Commissioner: If you fail in this, there'll be a new commissioner here. Let him worry about that.
Ironside: Looks as if they've come up high and dry.
Ed: Unless they missed something.
Ironside: Doubtful. When John Breen started in auto theft, some cars ran on steam.
Ed: He looks a little as if he did too.
Ironside: Are you brother and sister, husband and wife, or do you just cross-pollinate?
Alfred Dunne: That--that's very funny. Actually I use the name Dandelion and my sister uses the name Pretty Weed. We belong to a group of people that wishes to emulate the flowers of the field.
Ironside: Meaning that you do not spin and neither do you weave?
Rosemary Dunne: May we go now? There's a party this afternoon and we're sponsors.
Rosemary Dunne: Anti-police brutality.
Ironside: Why doesn't anybody ever give an anti-brutality-to-cops party?
Alfred Dunne: Is there such a thing as brutality to a policeman?
Ed: Do you think he was born in a wheelchair?
Ironside: That's the trouble with volunteers. They quit when the going gets tough. can't be much worse than working for me here, is it?
Mark: That's like asking if I prefer being hit on the head or poked in the eye with a stick.
The episode featured an early version of the directional microphone, but when they pointed the device at an area with a high magnetic field, feedback interfered with reception. However, at that point the device is detection sound; it has yet to convert this into electrical energy for amplification and replay. Magnetic fields do not interfere with the propagation of sound waves.
