Ironside waits to board a plane that will take him to Los Angeles and the National Police Officers Convention, a gathering he has not missed in over twenty years. Just before he boards, the plane explodes! Was someone after Ironside? Or another passenger? After eight grueling hours investigating this explosion, Ironside returns to his van and discovers an abandoned baby and a cryptic note, “Keep my baby until...” Investigating the plane's passengers, Ed Brown discovers an apartment provisioned for a baby, and a picture of the abandoned child. Could the two mysteries be one mystery?
Ironside: If they can put men in orbit on time, why the delay in going to Los Angeles?
The Commissioner: How are things going?
Ironside: Getting underway.
The Commissioner: When I gave you the authority to take over this investigation, I didn't realize that you were taking over the airport, too.
Ironside: Maybe there are other ways of doing it, Dennis, but this is my way.
The Commissioner: Well, get things back to normal as quickly as you can.
Ironside: Perhaps it's normal for some maniac to try to kill me or somebody else, but it's not normal to include a hundred innocent bystanders in the attempt.
Ed: I didn't know you were such an authority on babies, Chief.
Ironside: Sergeant, when you know all there is to know about me, I'll be working for you.
Ed: Now the infant's name is Bobby.
Ed: Right. Same as yours, Robert. Did anyone ever call you Bobby?
Ironside: Not recently.
Ed: What about the meeting in the Commissioner's office?
Ironside: Still going on. Randall's conferring with the FAA, the FAA is conferring with the FBI. The whole alphabet's getting into the act.
