England is in complete chaos as magic returns. Mr. Norrell takes shelter in his library and Jonathan confronts him, determined to defeat the Gentleman and free Arabella before the Faerie curse causes his death. Childermass attempts to undo the magic that keeps Emma Pole under the Gentleman’s power while Stephen becomes drawn ever deeper into the Gentleman’s web.

1x5: Arabella recap: At Belgium at the Battle of Waterloo, Jonathan summons rain to douse the flames from enemy fire. Grant says that they need flames to drive back the French at the gates, and Jonathan warns him that he can give them either rain or flames, but not both. A shot sets a nearby building on fire and Jonathan conjures water from a well and puts out the flames. The French scale the walls and fire, and Jonathan runs to the wall and enchants the vines. 1x4: All the Mirrors of the World recap: The servant drags a screaming Emma upstairs, while other servants take the injured Childermass to the kitchen, place him on the table, and remove the bullet. Sir Walter arrives in Norrell’s study as the magician complains that his reputation has been ruined and the reputation of English magic along with it.
