An evil magician named Hoo Doo (series star Charles
Nelson Reilly) demands taxes from the Good Hat folk. When they refuse, he tries to wreak all sorts of vengeance on them, from eviction to kidnapping of their young friend Mark (Butch Patrick). Hoo Doo's plots are blocked both by Mark and the magician's unwilling assistant, a goof ball named Genie (Billie Hayes). Mark's adventures, as he tries to return to the real world and his parents, are portrayed in a series of half- hour adventure stories in which puppets and comedy voices play a large part. At the end of each adventure Mark and virtue having triumphed over Hoo Doo, he is still in Lidsville and still hopeful of finding a magic way out of the fantasy land into which his curiosity has catapulted him.
