1x9: Two Prized Colts Go Head-to-Head recap: The episode begins, and Marcus has made up his mind that their winning streak is about to run out. Their horse is racing on Derby day in the South Bay Handicap, and even though Jerry likes Mon Gateau’s chances -- especially since Rosie is going to be aboard, jacking up the odds -- Marcus is certain trouble is lurking. And not just horse trouble -- he has impulsively invited his Middle Eastern doctor to join them for the race, and hours before post time, he becomes paranoid that the “Arab doctor” might be a suicide bomber. Gus and Ace also have been on edge ever since Nathan went missing and they learn that they are being stalked by a hit-man from Chicago... read more.

1x8: Ace Counters Smythe's Move with His Own recap: The scene opens with an agitated Ace waking up the day after Nathan's suspicious disappearance with one thing on his mind. "Did we hear from the kid yet?" he asks Gus, who isn't yet around; Ace looks visibly worried. Cut to early riser Smythe, who's watching a fishing boat head out of the harbor. His partners in crime are already on the move: Cohen is off to the Indian Gaming Commission to elbow in on Ace's deal and DeRossi is on his way to play dumb with Ace and Gus about the missing kid; so he isn’t doubted in any way. Out at sea, the fishermen decide to chop up whatever's in the bag and send it to the bottom with some heavy weights, so nothing floats back to the surface. They spare us the grisly dismemberment, but the bloody deck certainly confirms our suspicions that it was a body, most likely Nathan's, from the look of things... read more.

1x7: Ace and Claire Tour a Horse Farm recap: The scene opens, and Gus volunteered that he thought that Nathan was holding his own. Ace seemed to agree, saying only, “He’s standing up all right,” horse lingo for a foal’s first baby steps. But is Ace even confiding in Gus anymore? Meanwhile, the four Degenerates running Forey Stables are struggling with the all-for-one ethos. Well, at least Lonnie is. He’s always been the odd man out, winning his share of the Pick 6 jackpot only because he had some money to put up in a pinch when Jerry had gone bust. He’s not a handicapper like Marcus or Jerry, or even Renzo. But he’s getting tired of being treated like the village idiot, and announces plans to put a claim in for his own horse. “I’m entitled to a life like everybody else, instead of just listening to conversations I’m not a part of,” he tells the gang at the diner... read more.

1x6: Ace Pitches a Deal recap: The scene opens, as dark omens abound all around. Joey is at the end of his rope in the meanwhile. An employee at the stables gets a phone call telling her that her son is dead, leading to yet another snipe-fest between Escalante and veterinarian Jo. Walter Smith gets what appears to be a very disturbing letter; worry is very clearly written on his face. Meanwhile, flocks of birds are swooping away, and the horses are whinnying and bucking; unusual occurrences. It can only mean that something big and scary is about to happen, and on cue, an earthquake strikes; thus explaining the unusual behavior of the animals... read more.

1x5: Ace Forces Escalante to Swap Jockeys recap: The episode begins with Ace, the cold-blooded architect of suspect business ventures of all shapes and sizes, in love. He can confront the man who ostensibly sent him to prison, and silence a corporate board with a steely stare, but the fact that Claire LeChea was late for their meeting had him totally discombobulated. He can’t wait to hand her, a giant six-figure check so her do-gooder prison program to unite convicts with retired thoroughbreds can get off the ground. But she is late. And hasn't called. Ace has had eyes for her ever since their meeting in the elevator. Gus comes to Claire's defense. "What are you, her lawyer?" Ace replied. Although, a more pressing issue forces Ace to put his game face back on. Escalante had entered Gus's prize horse -- in other words, Ace's horse -- in tomorrow's race without letting them know... read more.
