In what is sure to be one of the biggest casts (and one that’s out of this world) on the small screen, ABC’s ‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ is welcoming another actor.

Today, TVLine revealed that Kenneth Mitchell (‘Jericho,’ ‘Ghost Whisperer’) will join the series as a regular. He’s set to portray Deke Slayton, a Wisconsin farm boy and WWII flyer. Of course, he’s also one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts. However, a medical condition soon inhibits him from blasting off into space, but this doesn't stop him from becoming a “powerful voice in the space program.”
Deke is also married to Marge Slayton (played by Erin Cummings), who is candid, funny, a woman with a vivid past and someone with a motherly side ensuring that she is the “glue that holds the wives club together.” She’s also not afraid to break the “cookie-cutter” image expected of the wives.
The 1960s period drama is penned by ‘Gossip Girls’ Stephanie Savage, and also based on Lily Koppel’s novel of the same name. It follows the wives of the Mercury Seven men, along with the lives of the Gemini and Apollo spouses, showcasing their support for their husbands, in addition to what they endured during the notable space race.
