We're just a couple of months away from the start of the fifth and final season of AMC's acclaimed thriller series Breaking Bad (can you believe it?!), and news is finally starting to trickle in regarding additions to the show's cast. On Wednesday, TVLine broke the news that Jesse Plemons has been cast for Breaking Bad season 5.
Plemons, an alumni of the NBC football drama Friday Night Lights, has reportedly been cast as "Todd, a dependable, innocuous, working-class guy." Of course, as with all things Breaking Bad, "his character may not be what he appears to be."
Could we be seeing the addition of another villain to replace the void left by Giancarlo Esposito's late Gus Fring? Other than Walt himself, the show's fourth season left us without a clear antagonist, and that short description of Todd certainly makes him seem like he could fill those shoes. Of course, no reports have emerged regarding the size of Todd's role in the series; he could be a one-off character or he could have a season-long arc. Understandably, the people behind Breaking Bad are keeping season 5 under really tight wraps.
Plemons recently finished up a role on NBC's cancelled series Bent, and will appear in this summer's action film Battleship. I'm personally excited to see him in the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master, alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Breaking Bad will return for its fifth and final season in July with its first batch of eight episodes. The second half of the season will premiere sometime in 2013.
