Out with the old, in with the new. Soap opera vet and two-time Daytime Emmy winner Gina Tognoni is the new Phyllis Summers on CBS' 'The Young and the Restless,' replacing fellow Emmy winner (and red head) Michelle Stafford.

This is pretty big news for fans of daytime's No. 1 soap since Phyllis has been in a coma for a year, so with Tognoni's casting, it looks like she's waking up -- and as a loyal 'Y&R' fan, I can tell you, she won't like what she sees! Her fiance, Jack (Peter Bergman), is hooking up with another woman, and Sharon (Sharon Case), who is basically responsible for her coma, has no recollection of the incident and is shacking up with Phyllis' ex, Nick (Joshua Morrow). It's the kind of the storyline that soap operas are made of (and they are).
Tognoni has pretty big shoes to fill, though. Stafford, who won a couple of Emmys for her turn as Phyllis, played the role from 1994 to 2013.

Tognoni, who is a former Miss Rhode Island, arrived on the soap scene back in 1995 as Kelly Cramer on 'One Life to Live,' and then headed over to her Emmy-winning role as Dinah Marler on 'Guiding Light.' She's also guested on 'The Sopranos' and 'Law & Order: SVU.'
Tognoni will make her first apperance on 'Y&R' in late summer.
