John Wesley Shipp’s Character on ‘The Flash’ Unmasked

John Wesley Shipp’s top-secret role on The CW’s ‘The Flash’ is no longer a secret!

So, just who will Shipp be playing? The man who once played The Flash in the ‘90s TV series will now be playing Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) father, Henry Allen, in the 2014 TV series.

In February, it was announced Shipp would be joining the freshman series, but, again, we were left to speculate on just who he would portray.

"Given his history with ‘The Flash,’ Andrew [Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry's father and that was John Wesley Shipp," executive producer Greg Berlanti said in a statement. "He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes. Also, personally, it was just wonderful to work with him again since my days at ‘Dawson's Creek.’ He's a great actor and a great guy."

That’s right, Shipp also played Dawson’s (James Van Der Beek) father on ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ and now he’ll play father to the fastest man alive thanks to a freak accident that grants Barry with the power of super speed. The ‘Arrow’ spin-off will also focus on Barry’s mission to prove his father’s innocence after he was accused of murdering Barry’s mother (Michelle Harrison, ‘Continuum’).

‘The Flash’ airs Tuesdays this fall at 8/7c on The CW. Check out the trailer below.
