She’s played a CIA agent on NBC’s ‘Chuck’ and the crazy Hannah on ‘Dexter.’ Now, Yvonne Strahovski can be seen on FOX’s 12-episode event series ‘24: Live Another Day’ as another CIA agent named Kate Morgan.
So far, we’ve seen Kate go above and beyond to capture Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), but now she’s going to have to team up with the man who’s been in exile for the past four years. Little does she know, Kate’s more like Jack than she’d probably like to admit, but these two will most likely dominate the world and take down terrorist Margot Al-Harazi in no time (at least, that’s what I’m hoping for).
Last Friday, TVRage participated in a conference with Strahovski, where she agreed that Kate is kind of like a mini-Jack, and she even takes inspiration from Sutherland who played the character for eight seasons.

“I definitely saw early on the similarities between the two characters, and I think it’s important for me as an actress to recognize those particular similarities that ought to be there between Jack Bauer and Kate Morgan,” Strahovski told reporters. “That’s definitely a part of the storyline that we’re going in to. Obviously, I want to add my own flare to it, so that’s a whole separate thing, but, definitely, I take inspiration from Kiefer and I continue to as I see him work. He just really dives into this quite effortlessly. He’s been doing it for so long and he has so much to contribute to this as a series -- not just as Jack Bauer, but he really is mentally immersed in part of the machinery that is this show from all different aspects.”
In addition to being the female version of Jack Bauer, one of the aspects fans love about Kate is how Strahovski is noticed for her skills and talents, rather than her beauty and what she’s wearing. That’s one of the characteristics that attracted Strahovski to the role, because ‘24’ is such a raw show that forces you to “be very real.”
“And on the same token not just with the acting, but, physically, I was adamant that I didn’t want her to be glammed up. I wanted minimal makeup and the clothing had to be real, nothing fancy, you know something like what she would wear in real life, which was part of the draw for me, because it is nice to just focus on scene work and something that has this much intensity in it.”
Like every character in the series, Kate has her very own flaws. Not only was she demoted in the very first episode, but her husband sold information to a foreign government. With that weighing down Kate, she’s all about proving herself in light of her husband’s treachery.
As Strahovski told TVRage, “I think that’s [her husband’s betrayal] definitely at the core of what is driving her to take on everything that’s in front of her at this point. She’s been given a second chance, so she sees Jack Bauer as her second chance right now. At first. it was trying to find Jack Bauer, and now that she’s done that she’s sort of on a roll to keep trying to prove herself to herself and to others around her.”
Strahovski also ensured TVRage that more will be revealed about Kate’s husband in future episodes.

And, with her husband out of the picture, does this mean Kate and Jack will have sparks? According to Strahovski, that’s not where the show is going. “There’s definitely going to be, I mean there is that sort of aspect in the show -- generally. Something may or may or not come up in that sense, but whether it has to do with Kate is not really a Kate thing.” (laughs)
She doesn’t believe anything will happen between Kate and Jack, but she did unveil that it just might happen “elsewhere.” Possibly between Kate and somebody else? Strahovski remained mum, so we’ll just have to tune in to find out.
For those hoping for a spin-off with the Aussie actress (who also noted that “it is actually more normal for [her] to put on an accent,” and she feels more comfortable using one rather than her own), Strahovski's not sure what to say about that, but she’s “just happy that people seem to like Kate Morgan and [she] hope[s] that they continue to.”
‘24: Live Another Day’ airs tonight at 9/8c on FOX.
