If you're like me, you're probably on the edge of your seat in anticipation of the next episode of Game of Thrones. "Blackwater," penned by series creator George R.R. Martin, promises to be everything we love about the series and more. And by "more," I mean that we're going to have the show's first major battle, the Battle of Blackwater Bay, played out violently over the majority of the episode. Stannis's forces will be meeting those of King's Landing with a violent clash -- but who will come out victorious?
Of course, the downside to the approach of "Blackwater" is the fact that there are only two episodes left in the season, meaning that after June 3, we won't have any new Game of Thrones until next April (the horror!). And with no new book to tie us over, the wait should be excruciatingly long, right? Well, probably. But there is at least something coming to tide us over (and it isn't winter): a new Game of Thrones-themed Facebook game.
Titled Game of Thrones ascent, the title will be a strategy game available through the social networking site, in which players will take the roles of nobles, swearing allegiances to houses as the War of the Five Kings escalates. Game producer Disruptor Beam will be developing the title. "Everyone at Disruptor Beam was a huge fan of Game of Thrones long before we began working on the game, so we recognize that other fans expect character-driven conflict and intrigue to take center stage in our new game," explained Disruptor Beam's Jon Radoff, who promises that the series will combine "original artwork [and] a highly engaging game experience."
A beta testing version of the game will be released first, with the actual release of Game of Thrones Ascent to happen at an undisclosed time in the future.
A console game version of Game of Thrones was released earlier this month.
Game of Thrones will air "Blackwater" next Sunday, May 27, at 9/8c on HBO.
