The first western I ever saw was Support Your Local Sherif and was absolutly thrilled with just how fun it was. Then when I got home from school I was alowed to watch The Rockford Files with my Dad. Many years later I watched him take John Ritters place in Rules for Dating My Daughter, after John passed away and my own Dad soon followd. So James is a reminder of the good times as a young boy spending time with my Dad and also as a symbol that when things fall apart, we must go on and support each other.

Thank you for all you have done and you will be missed as a entertainer, role model & friend.

A definite working actor's actor. He truly brought his wealth of craft to every role he undertook. He never craved the spotlight and was, from everything I've ever heard, a true gentleman on and off set. He will be truly missed. Condolences to his family. R.I.P. Mr. Garner, I always enjoyed your work.

I loved the Rockford files. THe on;y real detective that got beaten up each week and he was always broke. A true classic performance by a great actor.

I'm absolutely heartbroken over Mr. Garner's passing.  I've been a huge fan of his since childhood and I'd say he probably was my first big crush.  I adored him on The Rockford Files and Maverick.  He made so many wonderful movies that made me laugh.  Seeing him on interview chat shows such as The Tonight Show was always a pleasure because he seemed like someone who was such a nice man who genuinely enjoyed life and seized every moment of it to the fullest.

He was a true gentleman who had the Hollywood life but never fell prey to its trappings.  Not once did I hear anything negative about him.  He had a good heart, amazing personality and talent that made him truly fitting of the term "legend".

I will always adore him and treasure every single television episode and movie I have the pleasure of having in my collection.  A great loss of such a great man.  All of my deepest sympathies go out to his family.
