Based on the hit US format on TBS, and presented by KONNIE HUQ the series sees eleven of Britain’s sharpest brains from across the nerd spectrum face challenges that test their intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess. Designed to to sort the weak from the geek, the nerds live together in “Nerdvana,” competing first as teams before moving on to individual challenges.
Each week one Nerd is eliminated, until the series culminates with one winner chosen to sit on the ‘Throne of Games’ as the quintessential master of all things nerdy, the King Of The Nerds.
KONNIE HUQ commented: “Totally excited about King of the Nerds, such a great concept. Me and my hubby got really addicted to seasons 1 and 2 of the US show. Great challenges and fab characters. Can't wait to start filming the UK version.”
Electus International will distribute the UK series, alongside the format and the US series, which has sold in over 80 territories, including Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Poland.
Sky Commissioning Editor Entertainment, Barbara Lee said: “We are really excited to be bringing the UK version of this successful US series to our Sky 1 customers. These incredibly intelligent men and women will push their brain power to the limit but in the end there can only be one winner.”
Shannon Delwiche, Executive Producer, Objective Productions continues: “We think it’s the first format that celebrates these unique individuals and rightfully so, as Nerds will undoubtedly one day rule the world!”
Eli Shibley, Electus Senior Vice President of International Media and Formats notes: “From superfluous eyewear to SpaceX to Superman, Nerd culture has covertly become synonymous with pop culture and we could not be more thrilled to get a little nerdy with SKY1 and Objective in bringing King Of The Nerds to the UK.”
KING OF THE NERDS will air on Sky 1 HD later this year. The series has been commissioned by Adam MacDonald and Barbara Lee and will be executive produced by Adam Adler and Shannon Delwiche for Objective Productions. The Series Producer is Ross Curran and the Series Director is Ashley Meneely for Objective Productions.
