Robin Williams Death Ruled Suicide Due to Hanging

Robin Williams

After preliminarily being ruled as a suicide due to asphyxia yesterday afternoon, the death of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams has officially been ruled as such. Marin County police officers revealed at a press conference that Williams committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt.

Lt. Keith Boyd spoke to the media today, revealing that Williams’ assistant found the actor hanging from a door in his bedroom by a belt, with cut marks on the inside of his left wrist. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:02 pm, August 11th. Williams was last seen alive by his wife Sunday night at approximately 10:30 pm.

An autopsy was conducted this morning in Napa County and toxicology tests have been ordered, although the results could take from two to six weeks to be returned. The investigation continues to be ongoing.

According to Williams’ publicist, Mara Buxbaum, he was “battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."
