Genre favorite Clancy Brown will be appearing in 'The Flash' starting in Episode 5, tentatively scheduled to air November 4, 2014.
Brown will be playing the role of General Wade Eiling, an American military officer dedicated to using superhumans to protect American interests... whether they want to or not. He becomes involved in the pursuit of a rogue metahuman, Plastique (Kelly Frye), which leads him to Central City where he crosses paths with the Flash.
In the comics, Wade Eiling was originally the man behind Captain Atom when the hero was introduced to the DC comics line in 1987. A shady figure at best, Eiling later developed a terminal brain tumor and has his mind transplanted into a Hulk-like Justice League foe, Shaggy Man. Dubbing himself "The General," Eiling becomes a full-fledged super-villain, with super strength and regenerative abilities that let him heal any injury in seconds.
In the WB animated programs, Eiling (voiced by J.K. Simmons) was a member of the government's anti-JLU Project Cadmus in 'Justice League Unlimited' and despised all superheroes. He eventually gained powers similar to his comic book counterpart and went on a rampage, only to be defeated by a lesser group of heroes, in 'Patriot Act'.
There's no word on whether the 'Flash' Eiling will gain superpowers.
Clancy Brown is no stranger to superheroes and the s.f./fantasy genre. He starred in 'Highlander' (1986) as The Kurgan, but also appeared in 'Carnivale', 'Lost', 'Starship Troopers', 'The Bride', 'The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai', and 'Pet Sematary'. These days he is better known for his animated voice work, including Mr. Krabs on 'Spongebob Squarepants', Long Feng in 'Avatar: The Last Airbender', and... Lex Luthor in 'Justice League Unlimited'.
