Comedian Joan Rivers has been hospitalized after complications arose during surgery. Rivers, 81, was having surgery on her vocal chords at Yorkville Endoscopy clinic earlier today when she stopped breathing.
According to Rivers’ assistant, Graham Reed, she is “not conscious, but she's stable,” and is currently at The Mount Sinai Hospital. A source close to the family also reportedly said “We are scared. This is not looking good. No big medical decisions will be made until Melissa arrives. She would want us all to laugh, but at the moment, we are all praying.”
UPDATE: A spokesman for The Mount Sinai Hospital, Sid Dinsay, has released the following statement concerning Rivers’ condition: “This morning, Joan Rivers was taken to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she is being attended to. Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”
