The second season premiere of AMC's 1860's set drama Hell On Wheels is right around the corner, and today a new "guest" director was revealed. The choice is certainly an... interesting one.
Catherine Hardwicke is best known today as the director of the first Twilight Saga film, and the Amanda Seyfried vehicle Red Riding Hood, but that wasn't always the case. Hardwicke cut her tooth in the industry working as a production designer on films like Tombstone, and Vanilla Sky. Her first few directorial efforts were the fairly well regarded Thirteen, Lords Of Dogtown, and The Nativity Story. All that said, she still strikes me as an odd choice to helm an episode of a series following a confederate soldier who works as a foreman during the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, all the while searching for his family's murderer.
Hardwicke's episode will be the fourth installment of season two, and sees lead character Cullen Bohannon resorting to desperate measures to get the striking railroad employees back to work. The second season of AMC's Hell On Wheels debuts Sunday, August 2nd, 2012 at 10pm EST. No word on if any of the characters will sparkle in the sun.
Is Catherine Hardwicke a good choice to come on board Hell On Wheels? Or should she have been left at the train station?
