A few years back, True Blood took the world of television by storm. Offering a nice counterpoint to the chaste thrills of the Twilight series, True Blood featured heaping helpings of sex, death, and sex & death. The show quickly became everyone's new "guilty pleasure", and while its popularity has dipped a bit since the first few seasons, True Blood is still rolling onward. The fifth season begins this June, and long time fans now have another reason to look forward to it.
Multi time Emmy winning and one time Oscar nominated actress Alfre Woodard is set to return to her role of Ruby Jean Reynolds, which she played for three episodes of the supernatural drama's third season. Woodard's performance of Ruby Jean was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series at the 2011 ceremony, but lost out to Loretta Devine's work on Grey's Anatomy.
Ruby Jean is the severely mentally ill mother of Nelsan Ellis' character of Lafayette Reynolds. Fans will recall that Lafayette also engaged in a doomed romance with one of his mother's male nurses around that time, but for the sake of any new viewers of TB, I won't spoil exactly what happened to the pair. Woodard is currently set to appear in episodes five and six of the upcoming fifth season, but producers say the door is still open for more.
Are you looking forward to Alfre Woodard's return to True Blood? Is the show still worth watching?
