One of the most critically acclaimed new series of 2011 was the Starz political drama Boss. The show marked the return to TV of Frasier star Kelsey Grammer, but in a decidedly different type of role. Grammer plays embattled Chicago Mayor Tom Kane, who both rules his town with an iron fist, and was recently diagnosed with a degenerative brain disorder. His performance was perhaps even better than most expected in a dramatic role, and ended up earning the actor a Golden Globe award.
The show is experiencing a few changes this year, with The Good Wife's Dee Johnson coming aboard as the new showrunner, and former Glee cast member Johnathan Groff joining the Boss ensemble. Mayor Kane is certain to face many challenges in 2012, including from his disgruntled now former aide Kitty threatening to reveal his secrets to the press. Will Kane hold things together, or will everything fall apart? Only time will tell.
