A few months back, it was announced that Californication would be introducing a new character next season named Faith, with producers planning to possibly spin-off the the character into her own series. Recently, the role was filled by actress Maggie Grace, most famous for playing Shannon on the ABC phenomenon Lost. The character is described as a kind of "professional groupie" to the stars, and along the way she develops a relationship with David Duchovny's Hank Moody. It's currently unclear whether this relationship is professional or personal in nature, but come on, this is Hank Moody we're talking about. He'll have sex with her at some point.
Today, news broke that fellow Lost veteran Jorge Garcia (Hugo "Hurley" Reyes) has signed on to guest star in an upcoming episode. Appropriately, he'll be playing an old contact of Grace's character. Garcia of course starred on the recently canceled FOX sci-fi drama Alcatraz, which was canned despite pulling in very respectable ratings numbers. Now there's a mystery we'll need Ben Linus to solve.
If this is going to be a trend during Grace's run on the show, then count me in. As a fan of both Lost and Californication, this will be quite the treat. I'm not sure how much the fanbases of both shows intersect, but they must to some extent, or the network wouldn't be making a point to have the two actors appear together and be "old associates" in an obvious attempt to appeal to Losties. Here's hoping some other Lost cast members show up too.
Although, if Showtime really wants to melt the brains of sci-fi fans, they should cast Gillian Anderson as Hank's love interest. X-Philes would finally get that Mulder/Scully love scene they've always wanted.
Do you think Grace & Garcia will adapt well to the insane environs of Californication?
