A while back it was announced that British actor David Morrissey had signed on to portray "The Governor", a formidable villain from the comic book series, on the upcoming third season of AMC's The Walking Dead. In the books, The Governor is the leader of a survivors colony known as Woodbury. I don't want to spoil anything for viewers unfamiliar with the source material, but let's just say that this is not a man that you want to screw with.
Before I get to the actual first photo of Morrissey as the Gov, here's some words from Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman concerning the character's trip from page to screen - "Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3 I'm even more excited than ever because now I feel like we're really getting to 'the good stuff. Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exciting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!"
On whether the character would differ from his portrayal in the comics, Kirkman offered this - "The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic. I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."
Without further ado, here he is:
Don't let his relatively mild mannered looks fool you, this guy is a beast. And try not to be distracted by the guy in the background striking a rather amusing pose while wearing pinkish pants.
Are you looking forward to the new season of The Walking Dead? Will The Governor take the show to the next level?
