I've got some sad news to report today, as actress Yvette Wilson passed away on Sunday, at the way too young age of 48. Wilson had been suffering from both cervical cancer and kidney disease for some time, and it appears that her body just couldn't take the strain anymore.
Wilson was best known for her role as Andell Wilkerson on the UPN sitcom Moesha, which starred singer Brandy Norwood and premiered in 1996. In 2000, both Wilson and her character jumped over to Moesha spin-off The Parkers. That show ended in 2004
Wilson started off as a stand-up comedian, with her big acting break coming on the short-lived ABC sitcom Thea in 1993. From there, she transitioned to an active film career, including appearances in Poetic Justice, House Party 3, Blankman, Friday, and the spoof Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. She also guest starred on the TV shows In Living Color, Jungle Cubs, and The Jamie Foxx Show. Her final acting role was in the 2005 straight-to-video comedy Ganked, starring former Nickelodeon star Kel Mitchell.
On behalf of TVR, I'd like to extend my condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Ms. Wilson. Her tragic death came all too soon.
Yvette Wilson, 1964-2012
