CBS Resurrecting Unforgettable?

Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh

If you were a fan of the CBS police procedural Unforgettable, then you'll be quite pleased after you read the following. It seems that CBS is reconsidering its decision to axe the series, which starred Without A Trace's Poppy Montgomery and Nip/Tuck's Dylan Walsh in the two lead roles.

The show featured Montgomery as NYC detective Carrie Wells, who possesses the abnormal ability to visually remember everything that has ever happened to her. She works alongside a team led by her ex-partner (and boyfriend) Lt. Al Burns, played by Walsh. Unlike most canceled series, Unforgettable's ratings were quite impressive (albeit not as much with the desired 18-49 demos), and were actually the highest overall numbers of any show to be canceled this year.

CBS is in talks with producers about doing a short (by broadcast network standards) season of thirteen episodes, which would be filmed this year and aired next summer. This would make it one of the highest profile scripted series to air during the summer months in quite a while, as most networks just program a bunch of reality shows during the summer, and leave the scripted programming to cable.

While a big four network un-canceling a series isn't very common, this decision isn't entirely without foreshadowing. When reporters asked CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler in May for an explanation as to why a show with such a solid ratings foundation got canceled, Tassler said that the real question was not "what went wrong with Unforgettable but what went right with the new pilots". I guess the new pilots didn't go quite as right as she thought they would.

Do you think Unforgettable deserves another shot to succeed? Or does another canceled CBS series deserve to come back even more?

They should bring back CSI Miami instead. Fresh plots, never rehashed, and dynamic acting from the star of the show... what's not to love? KIDDING!! I'm pleased that Unforgettable will be back. It really is a fresh idea that hasn't been done to death. No offense to CSI Miami fans, but that old dog should have been put out of it's misery long ago. Shows like that, which have run their course and overstayed their welcome, are one of the reasons why it's so difficult for new programs to get a shot on network.

In response to Anonymous about Poppy's gift seeming impossible, her charcter suffered from a genuine medical condition called Hyperthymesia, sufferers of which can indeed remember almost every detail of every day of their lives.

Never missed an episode, even though her gift seemed impossible, but it never interferred with good plots and very good acting, and a group that was not always fighting over some stupid personal problem that was inconsistent with the overall show. I always liked Poppy in the other major show she starred in so it was great having her back as the primary in this show. Can't wait for the show to come back. Also, think about firing the exec. who feels an older audience is not just as good , or better than the uppy aged kids....we've got more disposable income too. Brush (code "and"

Awesome, was gutted when it was cancelled, maybe somebody somewhere might wake up one day and decide to resurrect FlashForward, and a few others too :-)

Too many good shows have been cancelled, during, or after their first season, so shows take longer than others to take a hold, look at Red Dwarf, hardly any interest in the beginning, and yet series 10 starts in September :-)

"reality" shows are CHEAP to make. No actors or writers to pay. No pre-production, no post production. Just turn on the digital cameras and edit. Very simple and cheap.

Awake is too intellectual for the masses. It should have been on a "cable" channel where it could play out it's psychological drama as intended.

Are they joking?? CBS's new "shows" are not that good and they have had only 1 new show "2 Broke Girls" they they kept. Even NBC's dumb Revolution sounds better then most of the new CBS shows. Granted Unforgettable is derivative of The Mentalist or Psych which feature unusual people working for the police, only with a hot babe, it's still better then most shows. MONDAY 8:30 pm PARTNERS - Yuppy rip-off of Common Law, only boring. TUESDAY 10 pm VEGAS - Cowboy in the 1960's, this makes the remake of Dallas look brilliant in comparison. The violent Boardwalk Empire is an adult version of the same idea only with better acting. THURSDAY 10 pm ELEMENTARY - best friends move Indiana to Los Angeles, oh boy, fish out of water, that idea has never been used, zzzzzzzzz FRIDAY 9 pm MADE IN JERSEY - I heard Jersey, that I I need to know, yeesh, no thanks
