Julia Stiles Starring In New Web Series About The World Of High Priced Escorts
Julia Stiles' last job on TV may have been having a "complicated" relationship with America's favorite serial killer on Showtime's Dexter, but now she's tackling a different sort of challenge: rich lonely businessmen. Stiles is currently starring in the new web series Blue, which airs on Youtube and premiered last week. The show airs on the YT original content channel "Wigs", and is the channel's latest project to feature a strong female character at its center.
Stiles plays the title character of Blue, a high-priced escort to any one able to purchase her services. While sleeping with her clients does put food on the table, that's hardly the only task Blue performs in her day to day life. The series is being directed by Rodrigo Garcia (Albert Nobbs), and his approach to the character seems to have been one of the main things that drew Stiles to the part - "I’ve always been fascinated by what happens when people pay for sex and what happens when they do it,” Stiles said. “I was really impressed with how [García] approached [the sensitive subject] with such empathy and compassion. What was fresh and appealing to me [about the character Blue] was that she’s not just one role. You get to see a full, well-rounded person. She’s a mom, a daughter, a friend, an escort, and an accountant.”
Another focus of the show is on Blue's relationship with her teenage son - "We protect each other, but we also push each other’s buttons,” said Stiles. “I think eventually Blue is going to lose her patience [with him]. Because that’s what happens sometimes with moms who are tired and compromised.”
Blue airs new installments on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Six episodes have been posted so far, with six more still to come. The first show can be watched below, although as you might imagine with such subject matter, the content is rather NSFW.
Will you check out Blue? Should there be more original drama series made for Youtube?
interesting, definitely not the first show about a call girl (there seem to be a lot of them lately) but there is something new about it, can't figure out if it is the plot or the format that feel like a novelty. i will definitely tune in though.
