Criminal Minds' Matthew Gray Gubler Signs On For Two More Seasons

Matthew Gray Gubler

Criminal Minds' fans may have lost Paget Brewster, but at least another series regular is staying put. Matthew Gray Gubler (who plays Dr. Spencer Reid) has just signed a new two-year deal with CBS. With the new contract, comes a pay raise, and Gubler will now making upwards of $100,000 an episode. Not too shabby.

Brewster and Gubler were only the two cast members whose contracts were up after this past season, and all other regulars will return in the fall. This brings an interesting conundrum though, as the contracts of series heavyweights Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, A.J. Cook, and Thomas Gibson are all rumored to be expiring following the 2012-2013 season. Theoretically, this means that fans might have a mass exodus on their hands, but that's obviously only speculation at this point. Producers will also have to worry about re-negotiating with new cast member Jeanne Tripplehorn next year too, as she only signed a one year deal. I wouldn't worry too much though. If a show can survive losing Inigo Montoya, it can survive anything.

Are you happy Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to Criminal Minds? Do you think so many contracts expiring next year could lead to trouble for the show?

I love the whole cast but it wouldn't mean as much without Hotch or Spence. I watch a lot of tv and when I have spare time I usually get around to all of my recorded shows eventually, but after downloading, this doesn't live on for even an extra hour before I watch. Love it...Miss Mandy still but love me some Mantegna :)

Gaping Hole is an understatement. They are all a great cast that just click so perfectly --- I never miss a show -- over & over always something that got by the first time so even reruns are great.

I'm happy he's staying, there would be a gaping hole without his character, and I think they'd struggle to find somebody else to cast in a similar role.

Hopefully the fact that so many contracts are up for renewal won't cause any major issues, I'm pretty sure they'll all stay, why leave a ship if it's not sinking.
