After getting great ratings for its first two seasons on TNT, Rizzoli & Isles was moved to a new night this summer. A change of this kind can sometimes hurt a successful series, but Rizzoli & Isles has continued right on the same ratings winning course, making it no surprise that TNT has elected to renew the series just four episodes into the third season.
Rizzoli & Isles is a procedural drama that stars Law & Order's Angie Harmon as tough, tomboy-ish Boston Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli, and NCIS' Sasha Alexander as her colleague, best friend, and Chief Medical Examiner Maura Isles. As the cliche goes: together, they fight crime. The show is based on a series of popular novels by author Tess Gerritsen, a former romance novelist turned crime writer.
There are still eleven episodes remaining in R&I's fifteen episode third season, which is set to conclude in August. The fourth season will also run for fifteen episodes, and will premiere in summer 2013.
TNT Head Of Programming Michael Wright had this to say about the fourth season pick-up - "Anchoring a new night in its third season, Rizzoli & Isles has proven itself to be a strong and enduring hit, not only in terms of the great storylines and performances, but also in terms of the show’s stellar ratings. We’re thrilled that Rizzoli & Isles will continue to be a vital part of the TNT lineup."
Do you watch Rizzoli & Isles? Does it deserve to come back for a fourth year?

I love R&I and am so glad of its return, I also agreee completely with rtruell about renewal early, really makes a difference to the story.
Unfortunately, with TNT not available up here in Canada, it's hit-and-miss whether we'll get to see any of its shows, like "Rizzoli & Isles" and "Dallas". Fortunately, both of those shows have been picked up by two of Canada's cable/satellite channels, each show on a different channel. Unfortunately, we're really far behind with "R&I"...only the first season has aired so far, ending this past March. Fortunately, "Dallas" is airing same-day as on TNT. Since I watch both shows, I'm glad to hear they've both been renewed for another season.
Looks like TNT is setting a trend...both shows were renewed after airing the 4th episode of the current season. It's nice that TNT is renewing so quickly...this way, both shows know they're coming back next year, and thus can plan longer-term plotlines.
