Did any of you guys watch Syfy's latest original series Alphas? Apparently it did pretty well for itself, because it's returning for a second season this summer.
First, a little background. Alphas follows a group of super-powered people that are led by a gifted doctor and scientist named Lee Rosen. Together, the team operates out of the US Department of Defense. pursuing the agents of an super villainous terrorist group known as Red Flag. So yeah, it's pretty reminiscent of the X-Men, although that's nothing new for a TV sci-fi series. A season one episode also established that Alphas shares the same universe as fellow Syfy originals Eureka and Warehouse 13.
With that out of the way, let's get to the list of guest stars. Returning to play their season one characters include John Pyper-Ferguson (Caprica), Kathleen Munroe (Haven), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (The 4400), and the always welcome Summer Glau as Skylar Adams.
Set to play all new guest characters this season are: Sean Astin (The Lord Of The Rings), C. Thomas Howell (Southland), Lauren Holly (NCIS), Steve Byers (Immortals), Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica), and Noah Reid (Rookie Blue). Wow. That's quite the collection of talent for one season. Hats off to the producers of Alphas for such great casting choices. Season two of Alphas premieres on Monday, July 23rd.
Did Alphas deserve a second season? Does this crop of guest stars make you want to check it out?

I think that Alphas is the kind of show that will become BRILLIANT once season 4 or 5 airs... just a shame Sy-Fy will not let it come to that...
Personnally I love the show, and hope to see it go further... but knowing Sy-Fy, that probably will not happen...
My predictions: Cancelled after season 3..
BTW: Summer Glau is not the reason the shows she was on got canned... that waas ALL FOX!!
Look at the history:
Firefly: FOX, Canned.
Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles: FOX, canned.
Dollhouse: FOX, Canned
The Cape: FOX, Canned (that one can only be blamed on the writers and the directors cuz that sucked a$$)
Alphas is one of those shows where I don't really know why I watched them to the end... I think David Strathairn was the only reason why I sticked with it. Malik Yoba was good as well, but the rest of the characters are utterly boring or annoying, the plotlines were mostly stupid and the effect cheap.
Not horrible, but I probably won't be back for another season. There's too many superhero shows that don't do anything interesting, although I must say that I liked about Alphas that they don't go for all the comic book elements that are so hip again these days, and rather went for a more realistic conspiracy thriller approach. My SyFy show of choice (the only one) remains Haven.
First Season was great. Just Dr Rosen was the poor character choice, he just didn't convince me that he was capable of running the alpha group. With Gary being the best character played by Ryan Cartwright, a very talented actor. Can't wait for season 2. Anybody that has not seen it, check it out.
