Once Upon a Time Reveals the Truth About Sexy Sheriff

This weeks teaser for Once Upon a Time may reveal too much about tonight’s episode. In “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter”, the sexy sheriff will take center stage.  Jamie Dornan plays mysterious Sheriff Graham who has close ties to Regina, mayor and evil witch. Fans have tried to guess his fairy tale identity since the show started. You can probably guess from the title of this Graham centric episode, but if you need another taste check out the promo for the episode.

The most exciting moment of the night may be Graham’s first kiss with Emma. They have an attraction to each other, but how will that sit with Regina?  There is an obvious tension brewing as we go deeper in the fairy backs of the characters. When you are dealing with writers from LOST nothing is what it seems.   What direction will Once Upon a Time take us?

The other big tease for tonight’s episode, one of the citizens of Storybrooke will die. Is their hope for some misdirection here on the part of the Once Upon a Time writers? While “hunter” and Graham’s relationship with Regina may hint that he is a certain someone it wouldn’t be the first time we have been fooled. By playing on storytelling conventions the writers can throw us off the scent. The idea of fairy tales naturally lends itself to some subversion to keep the stories interesting.

Former Buffy:The Vampire Slayer writer, Jane Espenson, has revealed a few spoilers about the future of the show. One of the twists will be fairy tale characters from other countries. The Once writers won’t have to fear running out of characters to kill. Or we may see new characters taking center stage in future episodes.

It is delightful that the writers are playing with these traditional stories from so many countries. After all, long before there was a radio or television there were the oral storytellers. There is nothing stopping the writers from bringing in characters from the Odyssey and giving them a modern twist. The possibilities are endless and that is what keeps us on our toes.
