It's strange to think that in just six short months, Fringe will be over. The show's fifth and final season is slated to begin in September, and with only a thirteen-episode run, it's expected that the show will reach its conclusion in December. At the San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, the Fringe panel acknowledged that fact with teary eyes and this clip, a teaser of the final season.
I don't have to tell you that a lot of that is recycled footage, most of it from season 4's "Letters of Transit," the future-set episode that sets as the jumping-off point for season 5. There are a few clips from other episodes, as well as a few clips that appear to be from season 5. New scenes feature dialogue from Olivia and Peter, confirming Olivia's presence in the future and also giving us an official look at the Fringe team's plan to fight the Observers.
Olivia and Peter talk about how proud they are of their grown-up daughter, whose adolescence they sadly missed. Then the duo discuss how they plan to defeat the Observers: while Walter meanwhile announces that he has a plan of attack, Peter decides that he wants to attack the Observers with some Fringe science. Clips of the porcupine guys from "The Transformation" seem to indicate that they'll be using some Pattern-style terrorism (who knows? It'd be a cool twist if the Pattern turned out to somehow be caused by the Observer resistance).
Check out the clip here. Meanwhile, Fringe returns Friday, September 28 at 9/8c on FOX with the season premiere, "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11."
