Tell your scribe to mark your calendar, because Game of Thrones has an official season 3 premiere date. The HBO fantasy drama series, which wrapped up its fantastic second season in June, has now hammered down a return. It's slated for March 31, 2013.
That's still a long ways away, but at least it's a little earlier than we had anticipated. The confirmation of this date means that we'll likely be seeing an early March DVD release date for the show's second season, and it also confirms that the third season will come to a close on June 2. But it's far too early to be thinking of that.
Game of Thrones season 3 has a hard act to follow; the second season ended with one of the most glorious battles ever seen on television (in the penultimate episode, "Blackwater,") as well as with a lot of political maneuvering and an army of frozen zombies led by the mysterious, supernatural, and almost certainly evil White Walkers, who were launching an attack on the Night's Watch.
The show's third season is adapted from A Storm of Swords, the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. A multitude of new actors were recently cast for the season, including Mackenzie Crook, Diana Rigg, and Thomas Sangster.
Game of Thrones season 3 will premiere on March 31, 2013.
