The second episode of Breaking Bad's fifth and final season, "Madrigal," airs tonight, and it's even more pulse-pounding than the season premiere. It's a Mike-centric outing, a prospect that should just about excite every fan of the series. Fans looking to be excited after the credits roll on "Madrigal" need look no further than the recently released episode synopses for the third and fourth episodes of the season, "Hazard Pay" and "Fifty-One." They're teasingly vague, in classic Breaking Bad style, but they also reveal a little about the timeline of the season and some future events.
The third episode, "Hazard Pay," features this synoposis: "The guys put a business plan into action; Walt confesses to Marie." Certainly sounds like Walter and Jesse are getting back to cooking, but will that be with or without Mike? (That question is answered in the final minutes of "Madrigal.") Walt confesses to Marie? He's almost certainly not confessing to his major crimes -- you know, cooking meth and murder -- but he might be revealing some lesser secret. Why Walt would choose to confess anything to the obviously untrustworthy Marie is beyond me, though, unless he's lying to her.
Episode 4 is titled "Fifty-One," which should already be a tip-off. "Walt celebrates a birthday; Skyler contemplates her options; Walt and Jesse's plan is complicated by an associate," the synopsis reads.
Breaking Bad began with Walt's fiftieth birthday, meaning that this episode will mark a year within the show's timeline since the series began, making it quite possibly the slowest-moving series since LOST. But it's also interesting to note that this episode will mark the halfway point between the beginning of the series and where we saw Walter at the beginning of "Live Free Or Die," which took place on his fifty-second birthday. Breaking Bad's going to be covering significantly more ground in remaining episodes.
The rest of the synopsis doesn't reveal much. When hasn't Skyler been contemplating her options? When hasn't Walt and Jesse's plan been complicated by an associate? (Though the identity of the associate is interesting. Is it Mike, or someone else?)
In any case, I'm excited for those next two episodes. The second episode of the season, "Madrigal," airs tonight at 10/9c on AMC.
