Body of Proof won't be back until January, but some casting news is already starting to roll in for the show's third season. The show has added a rather major new cast member, it was reported Saturday: Mark Valley will be joining in an important new role.
Valley will play Detective Tommy Sullivan, a new main character on the series -- and Megan's (Dana Delaney) ex-boyfriend. He's tranferred to Philadelphia to win her back after their break-up -- which actress Delaney insists was his fault.
“Things between them are not good,” she told TVLine. “He was a bit of a rascal [when they dated].” The introduction of Valley's character will bring a flirtatious element to the series, not dissimilar to the dynamic between Booth and Brennan on FOX's Bones.
This isn't the first cast shake-up for Body of Proof's third season. Actors Nicholas Bishop, John Carrol Lynch, and Sonja Sohn all departed from the series due to budget cuts required to keep the show on the air for a third season.
Valley is a veteran of television. He starred in FOX's action series Human Target for two seasons, and recurred throughout Fringe's first season. He starred in the recently cancelled legal series Harry's Law along with Kathy Bates.
Body of Proof will pick up its thirteen-episode third season on ABC in January 2013.
