Jason O'Mara Calls FOX's Cancellation Of Terra Nova "Premature", Talks His New CBS Series Vegas

Jason O'Mara

The cancellation of Steven Spielberg produced sci-fi series Terra Nova after one season on FOX was met by the angry cries of many upset fans, especially since the show ended on a cliffhanger that will now never be resolved. Actor Jason O'Mara (who portrayed lead character Jim Shannon on "Nova") was out doing promotion this weekend for his new CBS series Vegas, but was asked about his last job along the way.

On the axing of Terra Nova - "I felt like Fox took an awful long time to make what was ultimately a premature decision. A decision could have been made earlier. However, I’d been keeping an eye on this project for a long time.”

That sentiment is shared by most Terra Nova fans, as the fact that FOX took multiple months to decide to give the show the hook just gave fans ever increasing levels of hope that the delay meant we were probably going to get more episodes. It's nice to know that O'Mara feels the same way. The "this project" he is referring to is of course the Dennis Quaid fronted crime drama Vegas, which premieres this fall.

On the most recent cast addition to Vegas, Sarah Jones, and how she will serve as a counterpoint to female D.A. Carrie Ann Moss - "For the series, we wanted to bring in another dynamic female presence. We had one in the law enforcement world, we wanted one in the casino world as well." That's certainly sound logic, and while I'm not a huge fan of cop shows, I can't deny that the Vegas cast (which also includes Michael Chiklis) has come together nicely.

Do you agree that Terra Nova's end was premature? Will you check out Vegas?

Well Netflix said they were possibly picking up the series, so I subscribed so as soon as the show was back up and running I was right there to watch it. Now, I see it was probably one of their marketing strategies to bring in some new customers since Netflix fumbled with there pricing mishap. Now it looks like they may loose another customer.

One of the best shows on TV I've seen in the past decade! Great perfromances of Stephen Lang, Allison Miller, Jason O'Mara. So sad to see it gone in favor of boring Cop dramas and Vimpire series...

Yes it was premature. I would have loved to know what was going on out in the badlands.

Terra Nova had the potential to be a great show, but now I guess we'll never know.

Terra Nova was pretty boring and the acting was terrible, or maybe that was the writing, probably a bit of both. It could been so good, time-travel AND dinosaurs... how do you fuck that up?

"Do you agree that Terra Nova's end was premature?"

Was it a sci-fi show on Fox?  Do bears poop in the woods?  Is water wet?

"Will you check out Vegas?"

Is it on TV?  Is fire hot?  Is ice cold?
